![]() ![]() Their mods leave alot to be desired and I rarely use them. Their tier 4 unit can be a mean little bastard. ![]() The sniper's healing shot is a nice add to biological armies and sketchy squirrel has a nice aoe heal acorn (but can also be modded into a psychotic grenade throwing shock trooper). They have some solid units that can fill some gaps in your line up. Off the top of my head, I forget which DLC added the furries. The invasion mechanic/gameplay is nice to experience once or twice (maybe for achi hunters), but not something I usually play with regularly. Invasions was the best, most well-rounded DLC add I think. It can be a jarring experience the first time you face it, but feels great when you're dishing it out. Precognition requires you to rethink how you approach and tackle combat. Although, I will say their units and mechanics are one of the stronger ones ingame. The anomaly sites are the best feature (my opinion) from that DLC. Eternal Lords offers by far the most stuff (including the best, though hardest, campaign in the series) but Golden Realms is also a lot of fun and includes the above-mentioned mechanics.- Revelations was the weakest imho. I wouldn't say you need both expansions, but you should get at least 1. It changes the focus of the game from siege battles to open field battles as you battle over the seals, which is a neat change of pace. (Seals of Power victory, a king-of-the-hill type battle where you have to take and hold locations defended by powerful neutrals. They also add new victory conditions, though only the one added by Golden Realms is really fun. You get this mechanic with either expansion. It makes the strategic layer a lot more fun. This means cities are no longer cookie-cutter copies and that placement matters a lot more. The most notable difference is the mystic city upgrades that let you build different buildings in your cities depending on what structures are nearby. (Including making the race units a lot more varied and interesting.)īesides adding more "stuff" (races, class, locations, spells, units, campaigns, etc.) the expansions do add several new mechanics that add considerable depth to the game. Though I should add that a lot of the improvements were released as free patches instead. Personally I only really got drawn in to the game after both DLCs were released. ![]()
